Umpqua Brewing Silver Anniversary

Today is the silver anniversary of craft beer in the Umpqua Valley—on this date in 1991 the Umpqua Brewing Company opened in downtown Roseburg in what is now O’Toole’s Pub. Finally, 75 years after the Roseburg Beer & Ice Company shut down in 1916, beer is once again made and sold commercially in Roseburg.

Per capita the beer here has grown about as big as anywhere on Planet Beer. Although the Umpqua Brewing Company closed in 2001, seven professional breweries have opened the past 17 years: McMenamins Roseburg Station in 1999; Draper in 2010; Two Shy and Old 99 in 2013; Backside and Salud in 2014; and Lookingglass in 2015.

Long live the beer here!
